Chinese, Nepali scholars meet in Kathmandu: Second Trans-Himalaya Communication and Social Development Conference convened
Kathmandu, October 4: On the morning of October 2, the 2nd Trans-Himalaya Communication and Social Development Conference convened in Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal.
This conference is collaboratively organized by the School of Public Administration at the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, the Department of Languages and Mass Communication at Kathmandu College of Arts, and Kangba TV.
It receives support from several esteemed institutions, including the Pan-Himalayan Region Communication Research Centre of UESTC and KU, the Sichuan Philosophy and Social Science Key Laboratory of Digital and Public Governance, the Research Center of Regional Public Administration Informatization at UESTC, and the Sichuan Provincial Key Research Base for Digital Cultural and Media Studies.
During the opening ceremony, Hu Jun, President of the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, along with Bhola Thapa from the Kathmandu University delivered their respective speech.
The conference brought together over 100 experts and scholars from Nepal, the United States, India, the United Kingdom, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, and other nations. It also attracted representatives from esteemed institutions such as Tsinghua University, Peking University, Zhejiang University, Fudan University and so forth. These participants engaged in discussions on key issues related to public governance and social development in the Himalayan region, contributing their wisdom and efforts to the region’s prosperity and growth.
Li Xiguang, Director of Tsinghua University International Center for Communication, emphasized that sharing experiences at the conference promotes understanding and recognition among countries in the Himalayan region. This exchange helps break down barriers, enhances mutual understanding, and highlights the importance of mutual learning and integration of civilizations.
Professor Ghani Rahman from the Taxila Institute of Asian Civilizations at Quaid-i-Azam University remarked that China plays a multifaceted role in promoting international cooperation, fostering socio-economic development, enhancing cultural understanding, and maintaining peace and stability across the Himalayan region. The gathering of experts and scholars at this conference on communication and development topics enables participants to learn from each other’s differences and strengths, and develop together.
Nirmala Mani Adhikary, the Head of the Department of Languages and Mass Communication at Kathmandu University, emphasized that the conference serves as an essential platform for educators and scholars from China, Nepal, and other nations to exchange knowledge and establish connections. It promotes cross-cultural communication and lays the groundwork for further academic and cultural collaboration in the Himalayan region.
Professor Han Hong, Vice Dean of the School of Public Administration at UESTC and Director of the UESTC-Kathmandu University Pan-Himalayan Communication Research Centre, pointed out that this conference is not only a significant event for cultural exchange but also a witness to scholars from many countries learning from each other and contributing their wisdom and strength to building a community with a shared future for mankind. In the future, UESTC will actively build a communication platform for transnational research, talent training, and media cooperation, strengthen theoretical research on international communication, and promote information, and cultural and people-to-people exchanges among different countries in the Himalayas.
The Forum aims to share the research results of multidisciplinary co-construction such as news communication, public management, political science, and history based on digital communication, and to express their views so that governments and institutions in the Himalayas can have deeper exchanges and mutual learning in the fields of public management and social governance, information exchange and communication, education and culture. Participants in the forum said that this forum has far-reaching significance for promoting the high-quality development of the joint construction of the “Belt and Road”, further promoting the sharing of achievements, mutual benefit, cultural exchange, people-to-people exchanges and long-term peace in the digital era in the Himalayas, and building a community of shared future in the Himalayas.
During the forum, the “Charming Tianfu·Humanistic China” Sichuan Excellent Humanities Documentary Exhibition, the “Mysterious Shuyun·Humanistic China” Theme Book Fair and Nepal Media Industry Research Activities will also be held simultaneously.
