110th birth anniversary of late Ganeshman Singh being observed today

Kathmandu, November 9: Today is the 110th birth anniversary of the late Ganeshman Singh, founding leader of the Nepali Congress.

Singh had commanded the 1990 movement against the Panchayat system in Nepal.

The 1990 movement ended after an understanding between King Birendra and the parties in agitation. King Birendra had asked Singh to become the prime minister in the interim government but Singh denied this offer and requested the King to assign Krishna Prasad Bhattarai to the post of the prime minister.

As the Nepali Congress under the leadership of Girija Prasad Koirala left the NC’s fundamental ideologies, Singh announced his disassociation with the Nepali Congress.

The Ganeshman Singh Memorial Foundation is observing different programs across the country. The Foundation is organizing a program at the Shanti Batika this morning. President Ramchandra Paudel is going to honor Professor Kapil Shrestha, a human rights activist and freedom fighter, with a gold medal, according to NC leader and former minister Bhimsendas Pradhan.
