How a nation collapses, Singhadurwar Baidhyakhana is an example: Balen Shah
Kathmandu, October 30: The Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City, Balen Shah, has said that one should visit the Singhadurwar Baidhyakhana to see the collapse of a nation.
Speaking at a function organized to mark the Dhanvantari Jayanti and National Health Day, Shah pointed out that the government undertaking to produce medicines itself is sick today. The organ is constantly running into losses and is unable to pay salaries to staffers.
He said, “Visit the Baidhyakhana to see how the country is sinking.”
“How does an organization that makes and sells drugs reaches to the stage where it can’t pay employees?,” Shah questioned.
He also recalled he had spent 5-7 years at the government residence of the Baidhyakhana when his father worked there. He saw that the Baidhayakhana was producing many medicines despite very little facilities.
“The tabernacle was a small building.” The budget was also small but medicines were available in plenty. “Now there are many buildings but they remain empty and produce very few medicines”, he said.
He alleged that the staffers are being changed just for 50 thousand rupees. He pointed out that the same trend was the reason for the institution to be closed.
He challenged the Nepal government and the Ministry of Health to run the Baidhyakhana properly and if they cannot, let them hand over it to the Kathmandu Metropolis.
“We know, how to run it,” Shah said.
