Finally, Modi gives time to meet Oli

Kathmandu, September 22: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given time to meet Nepal’s Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli at the sideline of the UN General Assembly in New York.

The two leaders are meeting for half an hour on Monday Nepal’s time, which is Sunday afternoon according to New York’s time, according to the Foreign Ministry.

Oli’s meeting with Modi will be the first since he became the PM for the third time.

Oli had given it a high priority to meet Modi in New York. Earlier, the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu and also the Indian External Affairs Ministry in Delhi had sent a message that Modi could not meet Oli in New York, however, Oli had mobilized different formal and informal channels to meet Modi, said a highly placed source.

Oli is also holding sideline meetings with the Pakistani Prime Minister and Bangladesh’s chief advisor, among others.

Oli met UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres at the UN Headquarters.
