BP’s son Prakash Koirala hosts tea reception on Kojagrat Poornima Day

Kathmandu, October 18: Prakash Koirala, the elder son of the late BP Koirala, founding leader of the Nepali Congress, hosted a tea reception on the Kojagrat Poornima Day, October 17, giving continuity of the tradition established by the late Koirala for national reconciliation and national unity.

The late Koirala returned to Nepal after a ten-year-long self-exile in India on December 30, 1976, with the quest for national reconciliation and national unity.

The late Koirala had said that the King and the NC should walk together to save the nation and democracy. To recall, when Sikkim was annexed by India, the late BP Koirala became alert from the Indian attitude and decided to return home with the idea of national reconciliation and national unity.

The late Koirala had started to host tea reception on Kojagrat Poornima Day, the concluding day of the Dasain festival. After the demise of BP, NC leaders Ganeshman, Krishna Prasad Bhattarai, Girija Prasad Koirala, Sushil Koirala and Sher Bahadur Deuba gave a continuation to the tea reception.

Former minister Prakash Koirala, urging the Nepali Congress to follow the path of the late BP Koirala – multiparty democracy with the constitutional monarchy – has started the reception this year.

The tea reception was attended by Bollywood actress Manisha Koirala, BP’s daughter Chetan Koirala and Sushil Koirala Memorial Foundation’s secretary-general Atul Koirala, among others.

On occasion, Prakash Koirala offered garland on the statue of the late BP at the BP Koirala Museum in Sundarijal.
