Illegal entry of third-country nationals at Nepal-India border to be stopped
Kathmandu, November 17: Nepal is preparing to stop the illegal entry of third-country nationals on the Nepal-India border. The proposal was made at a high-level meeting of security officials of the two countries on Saturday. Inspector General of Armed Police Raju Aryal said that the meeting, which will run until Monday, will draw common conclusions on the control of cross-border crime and the prohibition of illegal entry of third-country nationals.
The proposal is mentioned in the Joint Agenda on Border Security presented by Inspector General Aryal.
“Nepal’s proposal includes the control of crime in the border areas, exchange of information about it, control of revenue leakage, human trafficking and illegal entry of third-country nationals.”
“The meeting will conclude with a conclusion tomorrow,” said Inspector General Aryal.
The meeting was attended by a six-member team led by Inspector General Aryal, high-security officials, representatives of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Nepal Police, Investigation Department, Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Director General of India’s Border Security Force (SSB) Amrit Mohan Prasad.
In the meeting, the Indian side suggested that mutual cooperation is necessary due to problems in the identification of third-country nationals and a joint desk should be set up for this. India has made such a proposal due to the increasing trend of entering Nepal through Indian land from countries including Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myanmar, and Afghanistan.
